This is the first picture of our grain of rice taken on 2/12/07. The golden piglet will be a Libra. =)
This is our first pregnancy so it will be an interesting adventure. I have 3 siblings and they've all had kids in the last 3 years. I've got lots of resources and donation offers. My sister already lent us a crib, some baby clothes, maternity clothes, bottles, a baby bjorn, a car seat set once my niece grows out of it. We're very lucky. And my brother offered for us to "go shopping" at their house. Thanks for the donations!!!
So this is my parents' 5th grandchild and my in-law's 1st. Lots of excitement on both sides, as to be expected.
Some stats: (more to come as info is available)
Mommy - born 6 lb, 11 oz. Some morning sickness but mild.
Daddy - born 8+ lb c-section (he was just too big for his own good). Apparently lots of morning sickness.
How I'm feeling:
I'm at about week 10 now. I've had 2 appointments so far. The first confirmed, yes, the grain of rice exists and here's the picture as proof. This last one was a few days ago and we updated my med history and got to hear jr while on the hamster wheel. What a fast heartbeat, which is normal. The nurse was pleasantly surprised we could actually hear the heartbeat. I asked why she was surprised. She tactfully said, well some women aren't as petite so there's more layers between the machine and the baby. It is quite an experience to see your baby at .25cm and to hear their heartbeat for the first time. When she said, "that's your baby's heartbeat" Chris shot both arms in the air and said Yeah!! I sorta laughed making the wand move. Oops.
So far no morning sickness...knock on wood. I might feel queasy for like 5 minutes but I tell jr to just calm down, we don't need any of that. It listens. =) Its been very good to mommy so far. Before I found out I was P I did notice I was eating a lot more. Well, there have been times I finish a while Chevy's burrito without blinking, but its rare. But this time for maybe a week I would finish a large portion of whatever which was a bit surprising. So after not cycling yet I'm like, well, maybe I should check. And low and behold, it came out +. We've always told people when it happens it happens. Of course we're not the type to share whether we're trying or not. MYOB. So now its happened and we're all anxiously awaiting the arrival.
The first week after we found out I started getting paranoid, well, more aware of my body and trying to figure out the changes, if any. I was probably a bit of a hypochondriac. I would feel warm so I'd check my temp and it would be like 100.2 and I'd be worried it was too high so I'd search the net or something. I'd carry crackers with me everywhere in case I started feeling queasy. After a week of carrying a thermometer with me, I gave up on that. Whatever's going to happen will happen. I'll learn. No point being paranoid until after my first appointment. I'll just try to be as healthy as I can... eat right, exercise, etc.
Speaking of exercise... if you know me, you know I generally don't. =P But I'm learning. I've got a spondy in my lower back (the part of the vertebrae that sticks up on the side that hooks them together, looks like a fracture in an xray but one of mine just didn't form properly so there's more potential for disc slippage) so I've been trying to strengthen it for the last 6 months to a year. I got some stretches/exercises from my chiropractor so I try to do some every day. And my buddy at work volunteered to go walking with me during lunch. Thanks, Buddy. =) I told him once I pop, he'll know way too much about pregnancy and that he was fully warned. He said ok.
The sex... yes, we want to know the sex of the baby. It'll help us prepare the room and which donations we'll take...from my nieces or my nephews. =)
Names... we've thought of some. You won't know 'til its born. Sorry. So don't bother asking.
I'll try to update what's going on. So far I'm feeling good. Only gained about 2 lbs since my last appointment. I miss sashimi and soda and whatever else I'm not supposed to eat. I'm not going overboard with what not to eat, but I'm not indulging either. No real cravings but if I see an ad with like baked potatoes in it, I'd think "that looks good" and want some. And Chris being the great hubby he is, he'll try to get it for me. =) In the mood for more carbs lately, pasta, noodles, udon, potatoes. We'll see how long that lasts.
I think this is long enough. I'll stop now.
