This week Mommy's company had a week long shutdown for the holiday. So Daddy used some of his many many hours of PTO and we hung out in SoCal all week. Before I get to that, Daddy's been in Orlando all last week for a work conference. That means Mommy was flying solo all week. Monday and Tuesday Pah-Pah stayed over but after that, Mom was on her own. We did pretty well, considering. We were planning Auntie Marielle (May-May)'s baby shower that weekend. So we went shopping for prizes and game stuff on Wednesday. Thursday we went to visit Auntie Lisa's new business in San Mateo. Stop by if you're in the neighborhood. Support local business. =) By the way, Chris designed their logo.

So they by Friday, Daddy comes home and we leave for LA. Cathleya slept through most of it, but Daddy was driving and jet lag so it was though. For us, leaving at 6:30pm was for him leaving at 9:30pm Florida time. With a 6-7 hour trip, that was pretty late, but we made it.
Saturday morning we drove to Murrieta. Partied in the super heat for Marielle's baby shower on Sunday. We went shopping for baby beachwear on Monday for Tuesday's day at Oceanside Beach. Lola Mel's family has a bungalow right on the beach. To our delight, our New Jersey cousins were also on vacation for a week so we finally got to meet all the kids. They totaled 7 kids ages 6 and under. Cathleya made 8. This was her first time at the beach. If we weren't concerned that she'd eat the sand, we would've let her play in it more. But it was hot too, so she twiddled her little toes in the sand and got excited when the waves touched her feet. She loves people watching so she had fun just sitting under the umbrella watching the crazy cousins throw the dump truck into the waves just so it would wash back on shore. Not to mention Lolo trying to snorkel in the crashing waves in the cold water. Not much to see.
Wednesday we met up with Auntie Serena and Kiana for dinner at Downtown Disney. They were spending their week in Disneyland. Cathleya was trying on a bunch of hats and finally decided on a Tinkerbell one. Thursday she hung out with Lolo and Lola while Mommy and Daddy watched Walle. Its a cute little love story. Friday we had lunch with Mommy's friend Wanda, her hubby Eddie, and their doggie Coca. She's a nice doggie. Then off to another family party at Lola Chit's for July 4th. We got to see more cousins and 4 additional kids 4 years and younger. There's a lot of Francisco grandkids. On our way to Agoura, we got to watch all the city fireworks going off. Some big ones from the various venues too. I guess its a SoCal thing... Daddy says in the poorer cities fireworks are still legal to earn money. So as you're driving on the freeway you see tons of aerial fireworks everywhere. The store bought ones are much lower than the city run displays, but for a good half hour to an hour we saw fireworks while we drove. They don't do that in NorCal.
After spending the night at Auntie May-Mays, we drove to San Luis Obispo to have lunch with Uncle Mike and Gabrielle. He's only 5 1/2 months old and he's already 19lbs and has 2 teeth. Cathleya's 9 months and only 16.5 lbs with 2 teeth. She's got some catching up to do. But these days she's crawling everywhere, standing while holding on to furniture or walking along the couch. She's starting to have an opinion of what she likes to eat and what she pushes away. She's a curious little girl that likes to analyze everything before putting it in her mouth. She loves rice and bread and whatever else comes off our plates. But she's got a cupboard of baby food to finish before she moves to big girl food. Apparently she likes mangoes and banana's too.
So now we're home and trying to get back into our routine. But with the 100 degree weather and teething, we're all a little irritable sometimes. The top two teeth should be popping out within a week, I'd say. She did do something quite amazing, in our opinion. She had 3 toys in LA... a monkey, butterfly, and a doggie book. One day the toys were scattered on the rug and I said, "Cathleya, where's your monkey?" She looked at me, crawled over to the monkey and brought it back. She identified all 3 items. What a smart girl she is. Mommy & Daddy are so proud.
And with her 9 month birthday comes the doctor appointment. No shots this time, but she did have a little blood test to check her numbers. She got pricked on her thumb, but didn't cry at all. What a brave girl. The nurse squeezed her thumb to suck up a tiny bit of blood into a tiny tube about an inch long. Then Cathleya got a tiny band-aid for her tiny thumb. She looked at it and kept bending her thumb. Then it was on its way to her mouth, but got intercepted by Mommy. She only needed it for 10 minutes. The nurse took it off on our way out. And the results are in... she needs more iron in her diet. Not super low, but as long as the numbers go up, she's all good. The dr said spinach, fortified yogurt, cooked egg yokes, and rehydrated raisins would help boost her iron count. She's been drinking more formula (with iron) than Mommy's milk these days too. Mommy had strep throat a week before Daddy went to Orlando, so supply is lower now. But Cathleya is getting older and doesn't need as much of it now anyway. And we're loving the solid foods.
The event calendar so for is a wedding this weekend then a break until August. Birthday bbq's, our anniversary, then a new cousin popping in September. Not to mention Cathleya's first birthday in October and then all the end of year holidays. Time is sure flying.
