Little Einstein's birthday was last last Sunday. As you can surmise, she's already well into her terrible 2s. Although I think that's such a sweeping generalization... As I've told Melissa before, it's really the terrible(insert current age here)s.
The Birthday party

So how did she handle her birthday? First of all, she's been counting down to it for a while now! 2 months before the party, she would say, "2 Months until my birtday!!!" and then it would decrease as we got closer. Of course we had to correct her every week. She's still trying to understand the concept of dates and time.
Her party last weekend went great! The weather was nice and sunny and everyone got to enjoy our semi-finished backyard area. Kids were everywhere, she got a ton of presents including a matching princes tricycle to go with her bicycle, and Cathleya's mouth turned blue from all the food coloring in the icing. Overall a very fun party.

A short vacation and the "happiest place on earth"
Before the party, we spent a week down in SoCal. In addition to giving us a much needed vacation, Lolo and Lola gave her a special pre-birthday party since they wouldn't be able to make her party up north. But first we spent the night at auntie MayMay and uncle Duck's house and headed for Disneyland the next day!!

Munchkin's first experience at Disneyland was all about the train. Sure we had icecream, went on King Arthur's carousel, the dumbo ride, Nemo's submarine ride, took pictures with Minnie Mouse and Tinkerbell, but it was all about the train ride around the park. We sat down and when she yelled, "ALL ABOARD!!!" she made everyone on our car smile. :)
Disneyland highlights (aside from those mentioned above):
- On the monorail - "We're on an airplane daddy!" (looking out the window you can't see the track)
- taking the same picture with Minnie ears as daddy took with Mickey ones when he was a boy
- saving her from running into poles twice and people 3 times using a monkey (more on this in a later entry.)
Exhausted from Disneyland, we headed to Lolo and Lola's house and spent the night before heading to Palm Springs. In the 112 degree heat, there's not really much to do other than cool down in the pool. So that's what we did for a good majority of the time there. As you can see though, it was a lot of fun!
We did manage to squeeze a little bit of golf in there too. We visited the driving range and putting green one evening and daddy and Lolo even managed to get an early round in before the heat started up again.
and of course, the pre-birthday party!

Potty training and the car ride home
So the thing about Cathleya and her potty training is that so far, she's not the kind to "cry wolf." That means whenever she says she's got to go potty, she normally DOES have to go potty. That made for a very interesting trip home. Not only did she want to stop multiple times. We would literally get back on to the freeway only to be asked 10 seconds later to go again. She could hold it, but she wanted out of that car so badly, I think she peed in intervals and stopped herself just so that she had enough to go later. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it. Anyway, if I recall right, it was almost a 12 hour trip home with all the stops.
If I knew for a fact that it was just pee, heck, I'd just let her go in her pull-ups! Alas, she mixed it up. Sometimes it was pee-pee, sometimes poop. No way of telling. SOoOOoOoOO... the best thing to do was to just stick with the training. No point in having to start from square one after vacation.
All in all, it'll always be a challenge, but still, almost completely potty trained at her age is great way to start out her 3rd year!
