1 Fish 2 Fish Red Fish Blue Fish
Some people think I'm not allowed to eat fish at all. I can eat some. I forget sometimes which fish I'm allowed to eat. If you're curious, here's a list from Straight Talk About Eating Fish During Pregnancy By Joyce A. Nettleton, DSc, RD.
All women, including pregnant and nursing women, can safely consume these omega-3 rich fish twice a week:
- Salmon in all forms, except from the Great Lakes
- Farmed trout
- Sardines
- Herring
- Pilchard
Fish low in contaminants and with less omega-3s than the above:
- Flounder and sole
- Farmed catfish, striped bass, tilapia
- Cod Haddock
- Mahi mahi
- Perch
- Crab, shrimp, scallops, clams, oysters, mussels, crayfish
Note: Fish not listed are safe to consume at least once a month
Pregnant and nursing women and young children should avoid eating:
- Raw fish and shellfish of any kind
- Swordfish
- Shark
- King mackerel
- Tilefish (golden bass, golden snapper)
- Marlin
- Bluefish
- Large and small mouth bass
- Northern pike
- Walleye
- Pickerel
- Lake whitefish
- Salmon from the Great Lakes
- Bowfin
- Gar
- Toxic species such as pufferfish (fugu), blowfish and sea squab
- All sport fish caught in states issuing a fish consumption advisory for that species
There's a lot of other stuff I'm not supposed to eat too... caffeine, soft or unpasteurized cheeses, undercooked meats, alcohol, etc... that's mostly it. I've sorta cut out soda too. I try to go for juices instead. Yeah, its a lot of stuff but generally, I don't drink, I rarely drink coffee or eat brae and those fancy cheeses. Okay, the sashimi is tough, and no medium rare anything sucks. Some say don't eat cold lunch meats so I've been doing the hot roast beef sandwiches instead. No over easy or runny eggs. Sigh, okay, pregnancy diet kinda sucks. But I'll be in better health eating what I'm supposed to be eating.
3.5 months down...5.5 more to go.

That's a lot of stuff to worry about. When I see lists like that, I keep thinking, "How did the human race survive to this day?" Heck, none of those rules were in effect in the 1500s (at least I don't *think* they were).
So no more coffee dates, eh? ;)
Luckily Starbucks and Peets sell non caffeine stuff too... ciders, cocoas, shakes. Mmmm...
