8 weeks

Chris has been taking over on the posts for the last few so I figured I should add my entry. Cathleya turns 2 months next week. That means she'll be getting a bunch of shots at her doctor's appointment on Tuesday. I'll let you know how that goes.

Its only been 8 weeks and she's already changed so much. She's probably around 12ish pounds by now. Her eyelashes are so long now and still growing. Her mouth has finally started to find her hands. She misses every now and then and it looks like she's hitting herself, but she eventually gets it. Lately crying has meant I'm tired, along with the usual hungry, wet, dirty, or pick me up.

Her Lolo put in her fishy mobile the last time they came to visit. If she's happy, she'll actually stare at the thing for quite a while. She still doesn't like sleeping in her crib, but she doesn't like her bassinet during the day either. Arms is still her favorite place to sleep. We've started tummy time. She starts crying after about 2 minutes.... much like her time with the bottle. Daddy's been feeding her about once a day with the bottle. We're lucky to get an ounce into her. She's got a month to get the hang of it.

She recognizes Mommy and Daddy more and more as time goes on. She's beginning to interact with us more too. I'm sure we'll get a voluntary reactional smile soon. She smiles in her sleep but I don't think she knows she's doing it. I've discovered she likes using our finger as a pacifier. She doesn't like regular pacifiers, but if we lend her a finger, nail side down, it helps her at the red lights when she decides to wake up and yell at the light for being red and making the car to stop moving. She hates that. Its like that car commercial. =P

A few words on baby stuff. We starting to prefer Pampers Swaddlers diapers. They have a webbing type thing that keeps the "stuff" away from the baby. And its a little easier to tell if the diaper is wet or not. The diaper gets sorta solid when it gets wet. It mostly keeps the smell in, unless she launches a rocket at which time nothing can mask the smell. We've used Luvs and the non Swaddler Pampers and we're on the Costco brand now. The Luvs we had didn't have any elastic on the waist, which we didn't like. Costco's leg area curves inward a bit so it makes it seem like the center is smaller and I notice the smell more with those too. We haven't tried Huggies yet. We've got a size 2 package waiting for us.

Wipes... Pampers wipes are sorta thin. Huggies are much thicker and has a better dispensing box. The Pampers box has a big hole that you pull the wipe out of. Huggies has a wavy slot in a piece of rubber that you pull the wipe out of. That keeps the next wipe ready. The Pampers version could easily fall back into the hole.

Diaper Genie2... Seems okay. Its got a spring loaded door so the diapers stay in the lower section of the can. It keeps most of the smell out but the storage area is fairly small so it needs to be emptied fairly often. Our friends said the Genie1 had this thing you had to turn. It sounded like after putting in each diaper you turn a dial to twist the bag which keeps the smell in. My sister uses the Diaper Champ. It uses a piston type chamber where you put the diaper, then you flip the lid sorta and the piston does a 180 dropping the diaper into the bag. And you can use any type of bag that you want. The Diaper Genies require the special bags. And you can't use the Genie1 in the Genie2. But I didn't know about the Diaper Champ until after we got the Genie2 from one of our many baby showers.

More product rating next time. Its midnight and someone's screaming in the other room. =)
